ABOLITIONISTS AND DISUNIONISTS.
Parson Brownlow, of the Knoxville (Tenn.) Whig, thus expresses his opinion of traitors, North and South:
My contempt for the Abolitionists of the North is only equalled by my hatred for the Disunionists of the South. Had I the destinies of these two extremes in my hands, I would then stamp upon them a mark more deep and infamous than that which followed Cain to his grave; I would hang them so high that divine clemency alone could reach them; I would bury them so deep that the shrill trump of the resurrection's morn would never wake them! And could I control the funeral services of the vile traitors who held that infamous Hartford Convention at the Capitol of this State, I would deny them a tear to mark the graves where they lie; I would refuse them tomb-stones to tell the passer by that such traitors ever lived, or were by earthly ties bound to humanity! I would decree that execrations should be their monuments, and that curses, loud and long, even to the end of time, should arise from the indignant bosoms of all true Americans, at the very mention of their treasonable designs against this Union. Yes, this, and worse than all this, should be the lot of all, who either at Nashville or elsewhere, have sought directly or indirectly, to sever one link of the golden chain, made sacred by the best blood on this continent, which binds this glorious Union together.
