The modern Miss or Mrs. America considers it a tragedy to be found wearing the wrong shade of lipstick with her gown and she wouldn't be caught in a blackout with such discord as an orange lipstick and purple gown.
It has become more of a possibility in the last few years to find matching lipsticks, but cosmeticians, realizing that many women cannot afford to buy a new lipstick every time they purchase a new hat or dress, are attempting to simplify matters by packaging inexpensive lipstick wardrobes that contain every shade anyone would need.
To make it simpler, one manufacturer suggests a lipstick wardrobe for medium brown, brunette, blonde, redhead and silver grey hair types.
For the medium brown-haired girl, said to be the average American type, they suggest a lipstick wardrobe containing four shades.
There is a red velvet lipstick to blend with shades of tan, rust, gold and brown; a pink champagne for all shades of blue; plush red for purple, lavender and fuchsia tones, and red raspberry for all shades of green.
