MORE NEA REPORTS
One of the pleasant aftermaths of the trip to
Alaska of the National Editorial Association is the
receipt in The Empire office of papers published by
the NEA visitors.
The stateside newspapers are carrying pages of
news about "fabulous Alaska;" about the trip aboard
the Alaska Steamship Company's Aleutian which the
travelers recommend as
"a
delightful cruise ship;"
about Alaska's green mountains, green seas.
"Alaska in 1951," a 12-page booklet by Lester G.
Benz, editor of the Mitchell County Press and Osage
News, Osage, Ia., is the method taken by Mr. Benz
to give a report of his visit to the Territory with the
NEA. The booklet is reprinted from the Editor's
Column of the Press-News.
The Archbold Buckeye, published by the estate
of W. O. Taylor in Archbold, Ohio. is currently running
a series of articles about "Our Last Frontier
Alaska" written by Orrin R. Taylor. who with Mrs.
Taylor and two friends from Archbold. made the
NEA trip.
Mr. Taylor is a former president of the NEA. and
his newspaper has won more national awards-including
two for general excellence-than any newspaper
we know about.
Even without his series of articles about Alaska,
we would find his newspaper an interesting commentary
on his state .. . and on the country. We
like Louis Bromfield's column in the paper, "This Is
Your Country." And we like the general excellence of
the Archbold Buckeye . . . the general excellence
that won the newspaper its national awards.
And we like, too, the publicity given to the Territory
by all of the columns written about the NEA trip
-columns that are reaching hundreds of thousands
of readers throughout the nation .
They should send many tourists to Alaska. And
some of them may remain in the Territory.
