Plan Merger of 3 Phone Companies
Proposed merger of three area telephone companies with the Home Telephone Co. of Middlefield was revealed today.
The small northeastern Ohio firms, now operating separately, are the Claridon Telephone Co., Mesopotamia Telephone Co. and Parkman Telephone and Light Co.
They and the Middlefield company today asked the Ohio Utilities Commission for approval to merge into one firm.
James I. Hunt of Middlefield, a Geauga County commissioner, now serves as president of all these companies. Under the merger, he would serve as president of the new firm, to be known as the Home Telephone Co.
Formation of the firm is scheduled for the end of this month. The merger would become effective Jan. 1.
Mr. Hunt said the company would serve 2,000 subscribers in three counties.
He said the merger would result in more economical operation and bring about a better financial status.
The main office would be in Middlefield.
At the present time, the Parkman exchange is installing a new dial system for better service.
Mrs. Frances Hunt will serve as secretary of the new telephone company and Ola May Klingman as vice president.
