We hear from Halifax, from good Authority the Centurion and Nottingham Men of War with about forty Sail of Transports:-- That the Admiral still remains there with eight Sail of the Line, and a Fire-ship.-- Their Cruizers look'd into a few Days before, and saw seventeen Sail of French Ships, their Top gallant-masts standing; therefore must have not suffered much in the late Storm, as they would in such an open Harbour. The Admiral will stay some Time longer at Halifax, and when will leave a Squadron to guard and protect -- By the Master of a Vessel which left Halifax eight Days ago we are farther informed that from Canada had sailed two Flags of Truce, a Brig and a Schooner with Soldiers, who had been taken at or near Lake George, having on board about 20 of them.
Had news of Indians: and that a Sloop which sail'd with having also a Number of Soldiers on board, was hourly expected. That they had Intelligence at Halifax, that 275 Men belonging to the Tilbury Man of War, which was lost in the late Storm off Cape-Breton, got ashore and saved their Lives; Capt. Barmlley with the Remainder, being 120, perished in the Waves. That a French Privateer Schooner from Louisbourg had taken, in about Lat. 38, a sloop from Marblehead, Capt. Dimond, and a Snow from Glasgow, Capt. Boyd, both bound to the West-Indies: also a Vessel from Philadelphia with Flour for Newfoundland. On their Return the privateer took a small coasting Sloop, Dimock's, bound from Lunenburg with Wood to Halifax; the Vessel the English Masters ransom'd, and in her arrived at Port Louisbourg.
