MUST GO TO JAIL
A boy of 16 stole an auto from a Denver garage belonging to Hon. C. L. Beatty of Cheyenne. The car was in the garage for the purpose of being overhauled to some extent. The young man drove the car to Colorado Springs, where he was apprehended. His excuse for stealing the car was that "a fellow could not get a girl anymore without having a car." If the fellows who are stealing cars for the purpose of getting girls are given a long time to think about it behind the walls of a reform school or penitentiary, it will have a salutary effect on a number of the rising generation. Cars are being stolen right and left. The courts have been very lenient in their sentences. A man is given a stiff sentence for stealing a horse, but for stealing a machine costing many times as much he is in some cases reprimanded and warned not to do it again. The time has come when an automobile should be looked upon as real property, an asset instead of liability. If automobile thieves are given the same relative sentences other thieves are given the stealing of cars will be discouraged.
