Gentlemen—
The Law Class, by their Committee, beg leave to offer you their unfeigned thanks, for the elaborate, interesting, and highly useful course of instruction, with which you have favoured them during the present session.
They assure you, that during that course, however great soever may have been the pleasure with which your lectures were delivered, it did not surpass that with which they were received.
That although the sources of your pleasure, a consciousness of well discharging the important duties of professors, the gratification of imparting to the Tyros of the profession learning difficult to acquire and valuable in its nature, and extending your own usefulness to those who are to succeed you in society, are abundantly productive of the most laudable emotions; yet when standing in the attitude of your grateful beneficiaries, and being conscious of having received from your liberal hands, invaluable accessions to that fund of professional knowledge, upon which they depend for their future standing, professional reputation and usefulness in society, they feel emotions of gratitude, respect and reverence, which must endure the remainder their lives. The Class moreover express their most earnest wishes for the future welfare of the University, and particularly that of the law department. They faithfully promise to contribute by their feeble efforts, so far as they can, to its reputation and future progress.
Please to accept the assurance of the highest respect, esteem, and reverence of the Class, by their Committee.
