TUCUMCARI

Roadmaster and Mrs. C. B. Lane are in the city. Mr. Lane is looking over the construction work being done on the C. R. I. & P. from Tucumcari to Amarillo.

J. L. Laughlin was here this week from Las Cruces in the interest of vocational training.

Dr. Henry Adrain of Santa Barbara, Cal., lectured here Monday evening on the food problem and the Burbank methods.

W. R. and J. C. Miller were here from Santa Rosa last week.

Mrs. Cora Kirkpatrick and son, A. A. Kirkpatrick, of Canyon, Tex., were in the city the last of the week and purchased some land.

J. W. Thompson was a visitor from Clovis on Monday.

H. B. Robertson returned to Duran the last of the week.

Mrs. F. C. Jennings left Monday for Colorado Springs and Denver, for a vacation.

Mrs. Jimmie O'Rourke came up from El Paso Thursday. Master James Jennings returned with her for several weeks' visit.

Alfredo Delgado, deputy U. S. marshal, was in the city Wednesday and Thursday.

Rev. J. P. Masterson of Nara Visa has been looking after business interests at San Jon.

J. C. Berry was in the city a day, enroute home to Amarillo. Mr. Berry has charge of the architectural work on the new Nara Visa school building that is to represent an expenditure of $40,000.

C. C. Moorehead was here from Nara Visa last Friday considering the purchase of the Rex theater.

Harry Frost of Blair was here Saturday in the interest of the school bonds that are to be voted on June 6.

Robert Bell, teacher of Hudson, was here Saturday.

B. F. Jennings and wife, who have been visiting in Oklahoma, were in the city the last of the week, enroute to the Quay valley.

Mrs. C. H. Bassford and daughter, Myrna, were in the city Wednesday, enroute from Oklahoma City to Mosquero.

R. L. Smith was here Saturday from Logan.

The little daughter of J. W. Parker is at a local hospital.

Sam Stratton, a wheat farmer of the plains country, was a Chautauqua visitor this week.

W. I. Batson, secretary-treasurer of the county school board, is attending to business in the city.

J. M. James of Roswell, spent Friday in the city.

S. M. Porch, an old time resident, but for the past 13 years a resident of Oklahoma City, is here looking after land interests near the Warner well.

Carl Edwards is here from Clayton.

A. B. Kingsley, manager of the Wilson company store at Mosquero, was in the city this week to meet the shoe men.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Starkey and family of San Jon were in town Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. N. Parker of Porter, came in for "Broadway Jones," at the Chautauqua Wednesday evening.

Jim Gates was a visitor from Porter this week.

Porter school directors, Lee Shiflett, Lee Jackson and R. J. Smith, brought in the returns of the recent bond election. After a consolidation of Porter, Prairie Dell, Shady Grove, Anniston and Frost, district bonds to the amount of $19,200 were voted.

F. A. Weich, C. C. Nance and C. A. Robberson, school directors of McCalister, brought in the returns of the recent bond election. Grand Plains, Ard, Browning and McCalister were consolidated. Seventeen thousand dollars in bonds were voted.

Superintendent Mrs. Nelle Hause is confined to her bed with lumbago.

Mr. and Mrs. I. J. Briscoe went to Amarillo on Wednesday for the Briscoe-Benton nuptials on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Briscoe will be at home to friends in Tucumcari after a brief wedding trip to Colorado.

Mrs. W. J. Herle, principal at East End school, left on Friday for Albuquerque. Mrs. Herle has taught for the past 10 years in the city schools.
