MISSISSIPPI AND LOUISIANA.

STRAIGHT OUT.

By the Platte which arrived last night about 8 o'clock, by which we have the letters of our ever attentive correspondent in New Orleans, and the Vicksburg Whig of the 9th. We have added one county to the Whig account. viz: Hancock

The Vicksburg Whig, remarking upon the election, says.

"The smoke of the battle has not yet cleared away and we are not able to make a complete report of the killed, wounded and missing. but enough is known to enable us to say that Loco Focoism is killed. and its friends and adherents are among the wounded and missing. We annex the returns from 43 counties, from which it will be seen that our majority is 2900 VOTES!!. and our gain in the same counties is 4,714. The remaining 13 counties which are yet to be heard from, cannot very materially alter the result. Should they all vote as they voted last year, we shall still have a clear majority of nearly 1500. which is enough in all conscience. We are satisfied and we know our friends will be—we have achieved a glorious victory and redeemed a State—we will not now quarrel about majorities.

It is sufficient that we have triumphed, nobly triumphed; and now let the winds and the waves bear the tidings onward and upward. Let every wind shout that Mississippi is free, until the glorious tidings shall have penetrated every nook and corner of this wide spread Republic. Let Van Buren bear it. Let old Tip bear it Let our sister States hear it In a word, let the whole world hear it and rejoice, for Mississippi is INDEED FREE!"
