Full Text

The Peruvian Navy.—This is represented as a very considerable naval institution. It consists of three captains, eleven boys, two flat-boats and a piece of "ordnance" of eleven ounce capacity. The day is fast coming, when, instead of gourd-headed men blowing one others heads off with villainous salt petre, in order to settle the quarrels of diplomats; they will abandon this species of barbarism and come over to Mongolian civilization.

Their form of fighting, is to knock their enemies on the heads with bamboo sticks and up trip them. When a man is down, he considers himself dead, and lies where he is, until the noise of battle is over.
