WASHINGTON (AP) - The right to continue operating previously unregulated transportation service in Alaska and Hawaii is granted in a bill signed by President Eisenhower.
Under the bill, so-called "grandfather rights" are given to certain transportation services in operation before the two territories became states and were brought under the Interstate Commerce regulations.
Types of operations affected: Alaskan motor carriers and freight forwarders operating in interstate and foreign commerce; certain Hawaiian freight forwarders operating in interstate and foreign commerce; and certain Alaskan water carriers.
