A Thrifty Ohioan
Robbed a Corpse

ALLIANCE, O. Sept. 8.-Jno. Letcher
aged 60, of Chambersburg, fell from
a wagon last evening and broke his
neck.

Bart Stocker saw the accident,
picked the man up and carried the
body into his house.

Stocker and some neighbors searched
the corpse for a name.
They found the name,
$5 and a gold watch and chain.
The
valuables were left in the
pockets.

Josiah Shaffer came to the house later,
and he said he was a cousin of Letcher.
Upon request he was allowed to view
the corpse.
On the pretense of searching
for
signs of life it is alleged he stole the
valuables and escaped in Letcher's
wagon.

The rig has been recovered.
but the police are still on the trail
of Shaffer.
