JSC Athletic Board Faces Financial Spot

Although the football schedule of the Jackson State Tigers is reputedly one of the toughest in Negro college circles, it is in no way as tough as the financial schedule confronted by the Athletic Board of Control at the College.

Faced with the possibility of having to reduce its athletic program if revenue is not increased considerably, the Board will continue its all-out effort to increase attendance at all home athletic contests until "something gives."

Resuming its intercollegiate sports activities in 1946 under the direction of T. B. Ellis as head coach, the Jackson State College athletic program has improved steadily until it is now respected by coaches, athletic directors, and officials throughout the entire country.

In recent years, the Tigers have been nationally rated in football and basketball. This recognition has come to the College although the College has consistently attempted to schedule the best teams in each sport, teams that have in many instances enormous resources.

Mr. Ellis, now Director of Athletics, and Mr. Robert E. Lee, Chairman of the Athletic Board of Control, are leading the drive to increase attendance at home athletic contests and are urging all alumni and friends to cooperate in this effort by purchasing season tickets immediately. Tickets may be secured by calling 3-8836, 5-8051, 4-2940 or 3-5366.
