Full Text

BOSTON. Sept. 28, We are informed, that a new theory has been proposed respecting the motion and operation of heat in the solar system, in some dissertations read at the late meetings of the Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Williams has shewn, that the earth is constantly receiving large quantities of heat all round the equatorial parts ; and that this heat is as constantly and regularly flowing off from the earth at the polar regions ; and that this must be the case with the other planets, and the comets. This theory, it is said, will explain all the appearance of the Aurora Borealis, and may be applied to magnetism and the peculiar phenomena of the comets. It is hoped the professor will pursue these inquiries, and favour the publick with a particular account of his experiments, observations and reasonings, upon these curious subjects.

A new theory on the motion and operation of heat in the solar system was proposed in dissertations read at the late meetings of the Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Williams showed that the earth receives heat at equatorial parts and it flows off at polar regions, similarly for other planets and comets. The theory explains Aurora Borealis and applies to magnetism and comets' phenomena.
