On last Thursday morning, between 12 and 1 o'clock, the barn of John Dettrick, in Liverpool, was set on fire, and his entire crop, which had been housed the day before, was destroyed, together with a valuable horse. A stable of David Shoemaker caught fire from Dettrick's barn and was burned to the ground. About the time these buildings were burned down the alarm of fire was again given, and Mrs. Bair's barn, (formerly Arbogast's) was discovered to be on fire, and was soon consumed. Rev. Kunyan, of Newport, had a horse in Mrs. Bair's stable at the time, which was burned to death, together with two calves. Suspicion rests on a young man named Reilly Brinks, who was seen coming from the canal with his clothes all dripping wet, having swam the canal from the river side. He was followed until he entered his father's residence. The next day information was made against Brinks before Esquire Tharp, and while the commitment was being written out by the Squire, Brinks, in custody of the constable, went home to get something to eat, when and where he eluded the constable and made good his escape. A reward of $100 is offered for the re-arrest of Brinks.
