Full Text

Some of the High Germans seem now to have rubbed the French Gold Dust out of their Eyes, and begin to see that the French are but lukewarm in the Emperor's Interest, in their pretended Mediation with the Ottoman Porte; a wonderful Discovery this! that a Prince of Bourbon would be a Friend to the House of Austria.

When were the Gauls ever true to the Germans? Their Interests are opposite, and the two jarring Elements of Fire and Water may as well unite as the Houses of Austria and Bourbon, unless the former will stoop so low as to become the Dupe to the aspiring Genius of the latter.

Some High Germans realize the French are lukewarm in supporting the Emperor's interests through pretended mediation with the Ottoman Porte, viewing it as a discovery that a Bourbon prince would not aid the House of Austria. The text questions French loyalty to Germans historically, stating their interests oppose like fire and water, making union between Austria and Bourbon unlikely unless Austria is duped.
