"There are men," says the Roman Satyrist, who can view without astonishment the sun, stars, and stated variations of these seasons.—They regard the vicissitudes of the world with ease and unconcern, knowing them to be governed by regular and certain laws, under the direction of a wise and benevolent superintendent. One year passeth away and another cometh; and thus we glide down the stream of time, until we launch forth into the boundless ocean of eternity.—To a comprehensive philosophic mind, the return of the seasons, and the flight of time, can work no idle fears, no alarming apprehensions. The whole of our existence is comparatively so short, that it scarce deserves the name; and man is so small a part of the works of GOD, that it ought to eradicate every idea of pride and consequence out of his nature. It is sufficient for us that we are continually under the care and direction of the greatest and best of Beings; and let it be our supreme felicity, that we are dependent on him; for his everlasting existence is the solid basis and support of every being in the wide extended universe; and
we cannot go,
Where universal love smiles not around.
