OHIO CANAL.

The subject of a Canal from Lake Erie to the Ohio river, has been taken up by the legislature of the state of Ohio. The committee appointed on that branch of the governor's message which related to internal improvement, reported in favor of the communication between these two great channels of commerce. A bill accompanied the report, and we can only give the essential provisions.

The first section provides that commissioners shall be appointed to lay out and designate a route for the Canal, to commence either at the Sandusky Bay, or at some point between that and the Miami of the Lake—and to proceed to the most eligible point of the Ohio river. In the second section, the commissioners are authorized to appoint engineers, assistants, chain-carriers, and other necessary laborers—and to allow them an adequate compensation. The next section relates entirely to duties—and the fourth provides: "That if at the present session of congress, a law should be passed for the appropriating part of the lands through which said canal may pass, to aid in the construction thereof, the route designated by commissioners, from its commencement to the old Indian boundary line, shall be considered as fixed."
