Full Text
The Richmond Enquirer thinks Mr. Buchanan and Gov. Walker ought not to be denounced by Southern Democrats,—saying that it will "tend to disturb the harmonious relations between the Northern and Southern Democracy." We have no doubt of it—but the question is whether the "harmonious relations of the Northern and Southern Democracy" is an object of so great importance that the South must suppress its indignation at the usurpation of Walker in Kansas. Is the harmony of the Democratic party of greater consequence than the assertion by the South of a right of which Walker has deprived us? Must the South yield everything without a murmur, for fear the harmony of the Democratic party may be endangered. We do not think the people of the South are so wedded to party as to subscribe to such a declaration as that.
