Full Text

The democrats of Kentucky must be on guard. The day of political bosses is gone and when we see them struggling to get hold of the party, it becomes our duty to give notice to the voters and sound the alarm.

This year the people must select their own candidates. They must not be selected in a cut and dried convention. It must not be in any would-be boss's back office

The republican bosses are already preparing a slate and have called a convention to meet in the city of Lexington to ratify their slate and thereby make the primary of no real effect. By so doing, no one, however, meritorious and deserving, will have any chance at the August Primary, unless named by the republican convention: and no one will be named in the republican convention unless he be selected by the bosses and placed upon the slate.

The free people of Kentucky will not stand for this, as they know it is contrary to the spirit of fair play. If the republicans of the state accept a ticket named that way, it gives life and encouragement to machine politics and gives to a few political bosses the power to select their candidates and name the ticket for them.

This our people do not want and the free and independent voters of this state should be on the alert to repudiate and condemn a ticket selected in that way. In other words, down with the bosses, down with the political machines, down with political tricksters, and up with the cause of a free people and a fair ballot, letting the best man at all times win.
