Just while we were feeling not entirely satisfied and sort of down in the mouth over election results, our old college chum Becky, of the Appendix, breaks out again in a new place on this Russian thistle-silo deal as follows: "More pain for the Fort Sumner Review man; It is currently reported that Governor Stubbs, of Kansas, is heading a new movement to interest science in breeding the spines off the Russian thistle. With the Hereford people making hay of it, our own people proposing to silo it (in which case the spines would be softened as the spines on the cactus are), and Gov. Stubbs leading out to breed its spines off, the Review's trouble seems to be just beginning."
Beck always was just about as visionary as a dog is full of fleas and its more fun to rub his bristles the wrong way than it is to read the want ads in a marriage bureau paper.
Come again, old timer, things are dull now and it is time to smile!
Thinking there might be a little bit of fire behind all this smoke anent this Russian thistle silo question, we decided to interview a man who should know, and Sunday we called on a farmer in the valley below town, and asked him about it. We beat the dogs out, in a race for the fence, and saved our only trousers, but not our feelings, as the gentleman spoke right out loud, and on Sunday, too. His remarks would turn an army teamster green with envy.
Yep, we found the fire! Come on Beck, we want to introduce you.
