Final Community Concert Received With Enthusiasm
The last community concert of the season drew a fine and most enthusiastic audience to hear Edwin Steffe, baritone, with Edward Harris at the piano.
Mr. Steffe proved himself a singer of note with a magnificent voice used with great intelligence. Possessor of a pleasing personality, his program was an extremely interesting one with a wide range of beautiful and stirring songs.
Some of the highlights of the evening were the "Quatrain from the Rubaiyat," by Santoliquido; the beautiful Schubert songs; the "African Xango" with its intricate drumming accompaniment arranged by Villa-Lobos; the "Cave" by Schneider, and the very amusing "Song of the Flea," by Moussorgsky.
Mr. Edward Harris who formerly accompanied Lawrence Tibbett, did extraordinarily fine work in support of Steffe and in his own solos, the "Nocturne, F sharp major" by Chopin and Rachmaninoff's "Polichinelle."
Both artists responded to encores and were called back again and again. The hope was expressed by many of the audience that Mr. Steffe and Mr. Harris would play a return engagement in Key West next year.
