In the House, a report has been made against
authorizing tender of payment of debt, after
suit is commenced.
The petition of sundry Physicians of Berkshire, to be formed into a medical society, distinct from the Massachusetts Medical Society,
was referred to a select Committee.
The bill to simplify pleadings, which had
passed the Senate, was rejected in the House.
Massachusetts Constitution.—On Wednesday the House considered the proposed amendments to the Constitution. That for changing the commencement of the political year, from
May to January, at which time the General
Court is to meet, and also fixing the second
Monday in November for the choice of Governor and members of the Legislature, was
adopted 377 to 39. The second amendment,
reducing the number of Representatives, which
has been under discussion three weeks, was
rejected 273 to 146, two thirds of the votes being required for its passage.
