Mr. Prentice, of the Louisville Journal, is here, trying to divert the South Americans from voting for Lecompton. This balance-of-power party have had several caucuses for the consideration of the question whether they will leap into the gulf opened for them by the blunders of Buchanan's administration, and precipitate a civil war upon the country, or whether they will take the responsibility of averting the pending calamity, saving the country from a bloody internal strife, and administering a just rebuke to the sectional powers that be.
