While Daniel Egan and Edward Devans, miners at the Woodward shaft, Kingston, Pa., were being hoisted from the bottom of the shaft the other morning, and when the bucket conveying the men was nearly at the top, the pin in the reversing lever of the engine fell out, which made it impossible for the engineer to stop the engine, and the bucket went through the top of the headhouse. The men jumped, and Devans succeeded in catching hold of a piece of cross timber, but Egan missed and fell to the bottom of the shaft, a distance of 900 feet. His body was terribly mangled.
