Full Text
It is truly ridiculous that the editor of the Providence American should croak so mournfully about the choice of Speaker at the late election. Prithee, Mr. Goddard, inform us when a federal House of Representatives chose a Republican Speaker—nay, when and where has it been known, that the federalists, when in power, ever suffered a Republican to enjoy offices of honor or profit. Many federalists, however, are retained in office by the Republican party. Really the assurance of this editor is equalled only by his ingratitude.
