Full Text

Mr. Duane, the editor of the Aurora, has disposed of his establishment. We agree with the Enquirer, that, in Mr. D. "the corps of editors has lost one of its ablest, if not its ablest member." The retirement of Mr. D. affords another evidence of the truth of the assertion so often made, that no persons are so poorly remunerated for their labors as the printer. He toils day and night, corporeally and mentally, and when he demands the pittance which he has earned, he is put off on some frivolous pretext or other, until he is compelled to resort to legal process to obtain his just dues. And then, the sensitive souls whose remissness, or some worse motive, has rendered this course necessary, discontinue their papers, determining no longer to patronize a print which needs money to conduct it.

An estimate of the losses attendant upon the profession, may be formed from the fact, stated by the editor of the Aurora, that the debts due to him, and which have accrued since he has had the management of that print, amount to the sum of $72,000--not one-third of which he will ever get!--He feelingly reproaches those persons who have defrauded him of his hard earnings--and tells them, that, if they had complied with their engagements, he would not have been compelled, in his old age, to seek in another land, that support for his numerous family which his youthful and arduous labors should have secured to him in this--We copy the following excellent sentiments from that paper.
