Michigan Magazine Abusive To Race

In the February issue of "Bloodlines Journal," official publication of the United Kennel Club, Inc., of Kalamazoo, Mich., there appears an article entitled: "Small Breeders vs. The Large" by C. P. DeLaney, in which the author uses the word "nigger."

DeLaney, in trying to point out the fact that it is as cheap and as easy to raise a litter of the finest puppies as it is to raise curs, states: "A Nigger bought some of my stock once and afterwards he raised just as good stock as I did. He couldn't sell his puppies because he was black, so I bought his whole litters and the white folks would buy them from me not knowing that the Nigger owned the sire and dam. This world is a great "racket" and the dog business has its share of it."

(Charles H. Tinsley, after reading the most offensive paragraph from DeLaney's article, immediately wrote letters to the writer and the editor of the magazine, C. Bennett, Box 485, Kalamazoo, Michigan, protesting the usage of the word "nigger" and inquiring if it was an oversight on the part of the editor or if he was in harmony with Delaney.

Other Negro citizens of Detroit have also written letters to the "Bloodlines Journal" seeking an explanation, as quite a few colored citizens subscribe to the monthly publication.
