CAPTAIN LANDSTROM REFUSES TO LEAVE VESSEL AGROUND AT MOUTH OF RIVER

ASTORIA, Ore., Dec. 5.—Capt. Ernest Landstrom of Seattle stood alone on the bridge of his vessel last night facing possible death. His vessel, the freighter Sea Thrush, went aground at the entrance of Columbia River in a dense fog and, in view of the heavy surf, doubts were expressed if it could withstand a night's battering.

The crew of 31 were taken ashore by a coast guard cutter but the Captain refused to leave the ship. Captain Landstrom was making port without a pilot, grounding at daybreak, Sunday.
