RURAL CIRCULAR
By Mae & Johnny A.
FORGOTTEN

I've been so long behind these bars,
A forgotten man it seems;
The only joys I ever know
Are few and far between.

I've watched the summers come and go
I've weathered wind and rain;
I've watched the flowers break the ground,
Where ice and snow have lain.

The same routine I've followed
For weeks and months and years.
And many a night I've talked to God
While holding back the tears.

I don't know what I would have done
If it wasn't for my prayers;
For I needed help so badly,
Which the Lord was well aware.

So with Him to give me courage,
I have vowed to see this through;
And I'll try to prove my honesty
By the things I say and do.

For I feel sure that some day,
They will open up their hearts,
And say to me. your debt is paid.
You may from here depart.
