REPUBLICAN PRIMARIES.

They Come up Smiling and Go Through the Motions Gracefully.

The Republicans held their primary meetings from 5 to 7 o'clock last night, and will meet in city convention at 11 A. M. to-morrow. The primary meetings were, as a rule, slimly attended, and but little interest was manifested, it being generally conceded, after the Democratic convention yesterday, that a campaign is hopeless. In the Second precinct of the Fifth ward there was a little contest for alderman between Mr. Starkey and D. D. Merrill, but Mr. Starkey won by 52 to 15. Some little feeling was created by Mr. Adam Gotzian, one of the judges, refusing to accept the vote of Wm. Gleason, on the ground that he was not a Republican. Mr. Starkey has the flattering indorsement of a nomination by both parties, which gives him a clear field.

The impression prevails that R. Barden will be the nominee for mayor, while the city attorneyship seems to be undecided. We append the results of the primaries:

FOR ALDERMEN

First Ward, Second Precinct - Theodore Sander.

Second Ward, Second Precinct - George R. Morton.

Third Ward, Second Precinct - C. E. Otis.

Fourth Ward, Second Precinct - W. D. Cornish.

Second Ward, Second Precinct - George W. Lamson.

Third Ward, Second Precinct - C. D. Kerr.

Fourth Ward, Second Precinct - L. A. Gilbert.

Fifth Ward, Second Precinct - R. Schiffman.
