Full Text

We learn from undoubted authority that at the General Naval Court Martial which assembled on board the U. S. ship Pennsylvania in June last, for the trial of Commander Latimer and other officers of the U. S. ship Cyane, that Surgeon Lewis B. Hunter was suspended by the Court for five years on half pay, and that Lt. Gordon was suspended for two years, but that the present Secretary of the Navy on a careful revision of the record, decided that there was nothing in the evidence to justify the sentence of the Court, and that both of them ought therefore to have been honorably acquitted. The sentences were therefore disapproved by the Secretary, and both officers restored to duty. We have not been informed of the sentence of the Court in the other cases.—Norfolk Beacon.
