Steilacoom, June 24th, 1855.
Friend Wiley:—I am happy to inform you that the Democratic cause is bound to be triumphant in this county. The party held their convention yesterday, and everything was done in a Democratic style, and I do not believe that there is a true blue in the whole county who is not perfectly satisfied with the decision of said convention. The people's, alias, Know-nothing, and whig meeting was held on the same day. I will not comment on their ticket, but leave you and the good people to judge what kind of an article it is made up of, by testing the quality. I am truly sorry to see some good names on said ticket, but I presume it was done without their consent or knowledge. Sawamish county was properly represented in our convention by three of my old friends formerly of Thurston, Messrs Hall, Hancock, and Swindle, who, by the by, had great inducements held out to them to get them into the dear people's convention, but it was no go, they are of the right stamp, true blue to the back bone, and will do to bet on at any time. You will perceive from the action of the Democratic convention, that we intend, not alone, to stand by our candidate for Congress, but to use all honorable means to elect him.
Do the old 'stand-byers' of Pierce and Thurston forget that Strong would not, whilst judge of the District Court for this portion of Oregon territory, go through the mud to attend the courts, but because he had the power, he either made the jurors come to him, wherever he might be, or a fine was demanded? And who is the man that the Hudson Bay Company's agents wish to go to Congress? Why he who has decided cases in their favor—and said decisions have been overruled by the proper department. I wonder where the Hudsons Bay Company's steamer 'Beaver,' and 'Mary Dare' are, and if Judge Strong ever heard of two such vessels, and how they were disposed of?
Mr. Editor, for the world of me I cannot see how Judge Strong has the impudence to come over here and ask the people to support him. Does he think to gull us? or may be he thinks we are natural Know-nothings, as a majority of our citizens are from 'Pike' and 'Posey.' One thing he can depend upon that if we know-nothing naturally, that we are not so politically. And as we deem it necessary for the good of our Territory, we have employed one medium sized Fort Simpson canoe which will be in readiness to transport Strong & Co. up Frazier's river, on the 10th of July next, at the hour of 10 o'clock A. M.

Main Argument
the democratic party's convention in pierce county was successful and unified, while the opposing know-nothing and whig ticket, led by judge strong, is unworthy due to his past judicial abuses and favoritism toward the hudson's bay company; democrats will vigorously support their congressional candidate.
