Yesterday afternoon, units of the 1st Battle Group, 9th Infantry commanded by Col. D. J. Richardson, began loading onto five C-124's commanded by Maj. Blakely, from Larson Air Force Base. Washington. This was the beginning of "Operation Gold Dust." which is now taking place here.

The first plane to depart from Eielson AFB carried the aggressors for the operation. It consisted of one platoon from Company B. 1st Battle Group, 9th Infantry. They will be joined by Co. The "aggressors" will attack, seize, and try to hold a critical installation. But upon notification of this, Company A, 1st Battle Group, 9th Infantry will move to Nome by air to regain possession of the installation. Company A was reinforced by a 4.2 mortar platoon from 1st Battle Group. 9th Infantry, and a squad from both engineer and medical detachments from Hq. Company. 1st Battle Group 9th Infantry.

Capt. Willard S. White of Hq 1st Battle Group, 9th Infantry is the base camp commander, which will be located on Nome river. It will not only house base operations, but also serve as a base for observer personnel from both United State Army Alaska and Yukon Command.
