EASTERN NEWS.
Return of the Rifle Team
New York, August 21st.—The City of Berlin, with the American Rifle Team on board, was signaled at four o'clock this afternoon and will be up early in the evening. The steamer Nelson K. Hopkins, with the reception committee and invited guests, went down the bay as soon as the City of Berlin was signalled. The Nelson was gaily decorated. The British colors floated from the beam end, the American and Irish flags from the centre, while the American flag was placed aft. The cabin was beautifully ornamented with flowers and wreaths. The guests accompanying the reception committee were Gov. Tilden, Gen. Knox and wife, Gen. Sharpe and wife, Mrs. Gildersleeve, Gen. R. M. McQuillen and wife, Col. Robert Ripley and wife, Gen. Arthur, Gen. Shaller, Gen. Joseph Hawley and Gen. Bradley. The revenue cutters, with a number of Custom House officers on board, escorted the party down the bay. The U. S. band from Governor's Island, furnished the music on board. The team will partake of a collation on coming on board the reception steamer to-day.
