COMMUNICATION
Tory and Federal attachment to the government of the United States.
The information which is intended by this communication is, with a view to detect a shameful evasion of the embargo law, which has for some time past been practised by Nova-Scotia tories and federalists in this city.
An enormous quantity of flour has been already sent to Passamaquoddy—not for the use of those who live on the territory of the United States, but for the express purpose of aiding the British at Halifax and the West-Indies.
There is now in this port two vessels British bottoms; it is intended that they shall be laden with flour principally, and to clear out for Passamaquoddy.
Is it not shameful in the highest degree that men should exist among us so base—so hostile to the wise and judicious measures of the government? It is. They deserve to be exposed.
There are flour merchants in this city profiting by this violation of the laws, making their thousands of dollars, while others, with patriotic zeal, suffer immense loss. The collector of this port may, if he thinks proper, have an interview with the writer.
