Martial Law Declared Shanghai Native Area

Shanghai, China, Sept. 24-The Chinese today declared martial law throughout the native centers of Shanghai. Fear crept over the city that the scenes of the six-weeks' bloody fighting in 1932 would be re-enacted.

While more Japanese marines landed, the Volunteer corps of the International settlement were ordered to stand by.

In Peiping, Major General Matsui in command of Japanese troops in north China said, "I personally think the limit of patience has been reached. We must teach and advise the Chinese, but if they don't listen we must slap their faces."
