Freshet.—On the 23d ult. a great freshet was experienced in the neighborhood of Darien, (Geo.) the rain fell in torrents for nearly twenty four hours—every bridge, small and large, between Riceborough and Mount Hope Swamp, (the dividing line between Liberty and Bryan counties) being swept off, the horses of the mail stage had to cross by swimming, more than once encountering great risk of being drowned. A letter dated Darien 25th, says, that no regular mail will again be able to pass from Savannah to that place within one month at the least, and that at Baiden Bluff, the large academy had been swept off entirely into a gully, and that nothing but the roof was visible.
