From the Albany Gazette-July 19:
ALBANY COAL MINES.

It is with the highest satisfaction we announce to the public, the establishment in this city of a company, composed of our most respectable monied men, for exploring opening and working Coal Mines ; and that the necessary tools and implements for mining are already made, and other preparations in forwardness, immediately to commence this important undertaking. For several years past an opinion has been entertained, founded on the observations and remarks of ingenious men, acquainted with the subject, that in the vicinity of Albany, were extensive Coal Mines; and various attempts have, at different times been made to discover them, but on so small and contracted a scale, as hitherto totally to have failed of success. The present establishment however, promises a fair and ample experiment; and it must be the sincere prayer of every well wisher of his country, that it be crowned with full and complete success.
