Dr. Reddick To Be Guest Of Nigeria At Fete For Azikiwe

BALTIMORE, Md. Dr. L. D. Reddick, author and professor of History at Coppin State Teachers College here, will fly to West Africa in a few days where Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe will be inaugurated on November 16 as Governor-General of the newly-formed Federation of Nigeria.

Americans are especially interested in Dr. Azikiwe because he received his college education in the United States at Howard University, Lincoln University and Columbia University. He is probably the first African to be made Governor-General in the British Commonwealth of Nations.

Dr. Reddick is a special (all-expenses-paid) guest of the Government of Nigeria and will bring greetings from several American educational and fraternal organizations and institutions. He is scheduled for a conference with Dr. Azikiwe and will on his return trip stop off in Ghana for another conference with Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the President of that Republic.

In previous talks with these leaders, Dr. Reddick says that he has found Dr. Azikiwe to be strongly in a pro-Western orientation that Dr. Nkrumah also, there is one difference of opinion on the immediate necessity and possibility of a United States of West Africa.

Dr. Reddick is author of Crusader Without Violence, a biography of the Rev. Martin Luther King, the Southern integration leader and with eight other scholars has written The Southerner as American, published this year by the University of North Carolina Press.

He has taught in New York, Atlanta at Alabama State College in Montgomery, Alabama.
