MELANCHOLY SUICIDE: One of the most unpleasant duties of a public journalist is the publication of the records of depravity and crime The heart that feels for its fellow, cannot scan the dark page filled up with the black deeds of fallen humanity, without involuntarily dropping a tear over the memory of the lost one, at the thought of what he might have been had he pursued the path of rectitude. But we are called upon, distressing as is the task, to announce the suicide of William Hollenbeck, aged about 50 years, a resident of this town; and, what is worse than all, to publish to the world that the cause of this revolting crime was RUM!

Mr Hollenbeck died from the effects of opium which he had taken while under the influence of mania a potu, on Thursday morning last. Let those who are imitating his course, stop and reflect upon his sad end, and turn from the evil of their ways.—Bennington Banner 1st inst
