Various reports are afloat relative to the force descending the river—under the command of Col. Burr—some say 600 some 500 men. However, it is sufficient to say, that his expedition has caused considerable bustle throughout the Western country, as well as in this neighborhood. We hear from some of the upper counties of this district, that the minds of the people are very much agitated. We are informed that the major general commanding the 2d division of militia of, this state has received advices from the secretary of war, stating, that the aspect of public affairs, require that he should have a certain portion of the militia under his command, in readiness to march whenever necessity should need it. The ardor with which they have volunteered is truly characteristic of that patriotism of which our country boasts, and will stand a pledge to our Atlantic brethren, that when the interest of our common country is endangered, our lives and property will, be sacrificed in its defence. We understand that the militia will be reviewed to day by the Major General.
