Denied the Use of Schools.—Within a week ten thousand children have applied for admission to the public schools in this city, and have been turned away because there was no room for them. The rejection of these ten thousand prevents twenty or thirty thousand more from applying. And yet the Board of Education spends a million and a quarter of dollars this year, ostensibly for educational purposes.—Could the Common Council make more use of it? A million and a quarter a year for free schools, and education denied to forty thousand children.—N. Y. Tribune.
