CHAIRMAN BUTLER PREDICTS VICTORY IN '56
Espousing the Democratic cause and predicting a national victory next year, Paul M. Butler, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, visited in Wrangell for several hours yesterday.
The Chairman had been in the Territory since last week calling in the various communities from Fairbanks south. He flew here from Sitka and Petersburg yesterday and went on in the late afternoon for a reception in Ketchikan last night. He was accompanied by his son Paul, Jr., a Notre Dame student, and Delegate E. L. Bartlett.
The Democratic leader was met here by Wrangell Chairman Donald J. House, Senator James Nolan and other Democrats and taken to the Elks Club for an informal reception.
In the Chairman's entourage from Juneau were Democratic National Committeewoman Katherine Nordale, Rep. Tom Stewart, First Division Chairman Rep. Burke Riley, of Haines and Mr. and Mrs. Felix Toner.
A Democratic dinner was scheduled in Ketchikan tonight, Chairman Stewart said, as a bon voyage token to the National Chairman.
Chairman Butler said he was impressed with "this great Territory" and reported he had found strong Democratic sentiment everywhere he had visited.
"If the sentiment I find in Alaska is as strong in the nation as a whole, we are assured of a victory in 1956," he commented. (For other comments see Periscope.)
