Julius Silversmith. In perusing its columns in search of information valuable to our reader, we find an article concerning a mine in our own district, of the existence of which we had not heretofore the remotest idea. It is a "big thing" and our readers ought to know about it.
Ledges that pay from thirty to forty dollars per ton from "only croppings" are not common in this district, and we envy the lucky dogs who "have in their possession the title deeds of the Commonwealth mine." Here is the article:
We learn that some reliable parties, recently from Nevada, have in their possession the title-deeds of the Commonwealth mine, situated in Gold Hill Mining District, in Storey county Nevada. This claim is favorably known, having a bold outcrop of fine quartz-bearing strata, and would at once pay to work. Its accessibility to quartz-mills, in its immediate vicinity, is also favorable to those who may become its promoters. This district is the greatest bullion-producing country in the world. Assays of the rock give from thirty to forty dollars per ton, (only croppings.)
The existence of such a mine at our very doors, is certainly something that from the nature of our business, we ought have been acquainted with, but like little Mac, "we don't remember." Our memory being at fault we have referred to Jo. Lovrea's Directory—but no "Commonwealth" do we find. We hope that when the "title deeds" have been disposed of to New York capitalists, and they begin to "promote" we shall find out something about it.
