By letters from Carlisle, we learn, that the troops which went to escort a quantity of provisions to Fort Pitt, were returned, without seeing an Indian. That the garrison of that place were in good health and high spirits, being well provided with all necessaries, and not under any apprehensions from the Savages: But that on the 21st ult. about 20 or 30 Indians were discovered in those parts, and seemed directing their course towards Carlisle. Upon this information Col. Armstrong ordered out a strong party to range in the vallies, while other parties were employed in ranging along the foot of the mountains. The distress and confusion this part occasioned on the frontiers, at this season, was very great. they were putting in their spring crops.
