RACE TRACK GAMBLING IN CECIL COUNTY.

Senator Crothers Introduces a Bill Absolutely Prohibiting This Form of "Sport"—The Senatorial Contest.

Both Houses of the General Assembly of Maryland adjourned on Thursday until Monday night next. Balloting for United States Senator will commence on Tuesday.

Senator Austin L. Crothers introduced a bill, which was referred to a special committee absolutely prohibiting race track gambling of all kinds in Cecil county under a heavy penalty.

The act which was prepared by the Committee of Public Safety for this county, provides that it shall be unlawful for any person, association or corporation to bet, wager or gamble in any manner, or make, sell or buy books or pools or any interest therein within the limits of Cecil county on the results of any trotting, pacing or running race of the horse or other beast, or race or contest of any kind, trotted, run or paced, or held within or without the limits of Cecil county, or to establish, keep, rent, use or occupy, or knowingly suffer to be used, kept, rented or occupied, any house, vessel, ground or place, on land or water, for the purpose of wagering, betting or gambling in any manner or by any means or making, selling or buying books or pools therein or thereon upon the result of any race or contest within the limits of Cecil county by any means or devices whatever; to receive, become the depository of record or register, forward, purport or pretend to forward any money, bet or wager, anything or consideration of value upon the result of any race or contest, or to assist or abet in any manner. Violations shall subject the offender to a fine of from two hundred to five hundred dollars, one-half the fine to go to the informer, or to a sentence of from six months to one year imprisonment.
