Mr. Stratford Canning, the Minister of Great Britain, accompanied by Mr. Foley Wilmot, late Secretary of the British Legation, departed from Washington on Wednesday. for New York. where they will embark for England. Mr. Canning took formal leave of the President on the 18th instant; and, since he has left this city, probably not to return, we may say of him, without impropriety and, we believe. with perfect truth, that during his residence here, he has, by the plain simplicity of his manners, his urbanity, and his hospitality, acquired the respect and esteem not only of the resident inhabitants of this city, but of all our citizens whose public duties or private pursuits have occasionally brought them to this metropolis.—N. British Legation.—In the absence of Mr. Canning, the Government of Great Britain is represented, here, by Mr. Addington, the Secretary of Legation, acting as Charge d'Affaires.
