To the honor of the French nation, let it be said, that they go to war for no pecuniary motives whatever, but to preserve those principles of liberty and justice, which they have atchieved by actions the most heroic, and perseverance the most wonderful in the annals of the world. The interference of that magnanimous nation in support of American liberty, must be recent in the recollection of every American—and a favorable termination of their present contest must be the hearty wish of every friend of mankind."
