Commenting on reports that the Army will close its Key West installations, Lt. Col. Clifford Singleton, Army commanding officer here, said today that he has received no official information to this effect.
A statement given out by Capt. J. K. Wehrman, public relations officer of the Army's Harbor Defenses of Key West, said:
"Col. Singleton states that he has no reason to believe that the Army will close its installations here and that he has no information officially from anyone to this effect."
Several barracks, buildings of the Army, however, have been declared surplus, Capt. Wehrman said, but plans for disposing of them have not yet been completed. Bids or other sale arrangements will be published at the proper time. The buildings are located at Martello Towers, Fort Taylor and one of Stock Island.
